Chris Rock is about to make Netflix history, becoming the first artist to perform live on the streaming platform. While details about his comedy special have yet to be announced, it'll air in 2023 and will capitalize on Netflix's comedy showcase, Netflix Is a Joke: The Festival, per The Wrap.

“Chris Rock is one of the most iconic and important comedic voices of our generation,” Netflix VP of stand-up and comedy formats, Robbie Praw, said in a statement. “We’re thrilled the entire world will be able to experience a live Chris Rock comedy event and be a part of Netflix history. This will be an unforgettable moment and we’re so honored that Chris is carrying this torch.”

The news comes on the heels of the comedic giant's announcement that he'll be embarking on a short tour with Dave Chappelle. The trek will take place over seven dates throughout December on the west coast. The tour will kick off on December 1 in San Diego, with stops in Phoenix, Anaheim, San Jose, San Francisco and Sacramento before closing out in Thousand Palms on December 14. Rock is currently wrapping up his “Ego Death World Tour,” while Chappelle will headline shows at the end of this year at Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida and the Schottenstein Center in Columbus, Ohio, where he’ll be hosting a New Year’s Eve show.
