Common is a proud dad this week. The rapper/actor/activist got to watch as his daughter, Omoye Assata Lynn, graduated from Howard University Law School. Common posted footage from her graduation on Instagram, beaming about how his daughter graduated from law school in three years.

"There are no words to describe how proud I am!" he wrote. "Finishing Law School at Howard University in the 3 years is pretty AMAZING! Congrats to my daughter and all the graduates of 2022. Now go out in the world and be great!"

Common also made headlines last fall after he opened a full recording studio inside Statesville Correctional Center in Cresthill, Illinois. Attorney Ari Williams initially came up with the idea to give the inmates an opportunity to express themselves creatively while learning the ins and outs of the studio. 

“The gentlemen who are incarcerated deserve access to better things in life, so that’s why I fight for my city,” Common said. “And that’s why my heart is always with Chicago.”
