Legendary producer DJ Mark "The 45 King" James has reportedly died at 62. A cause of death has not been revealed.

DJ Premier shared the sad news of the passing of the iconic DJ on Instagram: "DJ Mark The 45 King who passed this morning. An ICON. His 62nd Birthday was Monday," wrote Premier, adding that he did a FaceTime call with him just last week with the help of David Lotwin of D&D Studios.

"Condolences to his brother Mike and his sister. There's so much more to say, but I'll leave it here," DJ Premier wrote. "Sleep Peacefully Mark, thank you for all that you've done. Such a nice person. You're such a special part of our culture that is chiseled in the stone of the greatest parts of us. LOVE YOU MARK."

DJ Mark the 45 King's storied career spans decades. Founder of the Flavor Unit, he's produced tracks for Queen Latifah, Gang Starr, Salt-N-Pepa, Eric B. and Rakim, and Common, among a slew of others. He's also responsible for Jay-Z's 1998 mainstream breakthrough single "Hard Knock Life (The Ghetto Anthem)" as well as Eminem's juggernaut hit, "Stan."

"Everyday he was in the hospital, I prayed and prayed that he would come out on top, but now he is not suffering anymore... what a great man. My condolences go to his family. His brother Mike kept me informed of everything, almost every day," Kid Capri wrote on IG.

Mark The 45 King's big breakout came in the late 80s, courtesy of "The 900 Number," a famous breakbeat built on sax loop from Marva Whitney's "Unwind Yourself." The Bronx-born producer landed a production deal with Tuff City Records, moved to New Jersey to launch his own studio, and eventually handled the bulk of the production on Queen Latifah's debut, All Hail The Queen, which helped solidify him as a production powerhouse.

Mark "The 45 King" James left an indelible mark on Hip-Hop, ensuring his legacy will resonate for generations to come.
