Kendrick Lamar and Nicki Minaj Win Big at the 2022 American Music Awards

The 50th annual American Music Awards took place last night (11/20) at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles. Hip-Hop was in the building with D-Nice as the house DJ and performances by Lil Baby and GloRilla.

Nicki Minaj and Kendrick Lamar took home honors in the categories of best female and male Hip-Hop artist. The award for favorite Hip-Hop song went to "Wait For U" by Future featuring Drake and Tems from his album I Never Liked You. In a non-televised win, Kendrick Lamar also won Favorite Hip-Hop Album for Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers beating out albums by Future, Gunna, Lil Durk and Polo G. For Favorite male Hip-Hop artist he beat out Drake, Future, Lil Baby and Lil Durk.

Taylor Swift was the night's big winner, winning in all six categories she was nominated for, including the night's top honor; Artist of Year. She is now the most decorated artist in the history of the AMAs with 40 career wins.

Seventeen-time AMA winner Lionel Richie was honored with the Icon Award for his career contributions to the music industry. Charlie Puth, Stevie Wonder, and other artists participated in a tribute performance for him. Wayne Brady served as host of the Dick Clark-produced program.
