KRS-ONE presented Washington D.C.'s National Hip-Hop Museum with the Hip-Hop Declaration of Peace (HHDOP) at the museum's induction ceremony at the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) headquarters in D.C. earlier this week (4/4). The declaration is Hip-Hop's only official document. It recognizes Hip-Hop as an international culture of peace and prosperity and was presented to the United Nations on May 16th 2001. It details 18 guiding principles of Hip-Hop and has been signed by UNESCO and over 300 Hip-Hop activists, pioneers and UN delegates.

The induction ceremony honored Hip-Hop icons MC Sha Rock, Roxanne Shante, Queen Lisa Lee, Kurtis Blow, MC/DJ Hurricane, The Fat Boys, Sweet G, and The B-Boys. The museum's music director RBI and Philadelphia's DJ Cash Money manned the turntables for the event which included a mini concert by KRS-ONE. There was also a live podcast with the inductees, hosted by Grandmaster Caz and JayQuan the Hip-Hop Historian.

The induction ceremony included special RIAA plaques presented to the museum's Executive Director Master Gee of The Sugar Hill Gang, KRS-ONE, and Kool Rock Ski of the Fat Boys, who was joined on stage by the sons of deceased Fat Boys members Prince Markie Dee, and Buffy The Human Beat Box. Disco Bee of Grandmaster Flash & The Furious 5, Davy DMX, William "Billy Bill" Waring and other Hip-Hop icons were in attendance.

"I've been to lots of award ceremonies, but I've never been to one where three pioneer female MC's have been honored onstage at the same time," said Roxanne Shante in her acceptance speech.

"This is a joyous day for me, and especially the group," explained Kool Rock Ski, the last remaining member of The Fat Boys. "Just to be honored by this prestigious museum, and be inducted is beautiful. Prince Markie Dee and Buff Love getting their props is enough for me."

National Hip-Hop Museum founder Jeremy Beaver told Rock The Bells that the HHDOP will be displayed at the museum's House of Hip Hop exhibit space at 2622 Georgia Avenue NW Washington DC for the next 30 days.
