On this week's Salute the Sample, Rock the Bell's exclusive series where LL COOL J, Greg Nice, and DJ Z-Trip breakdown the origin of some of Hip-Hop’s most beloved samples, the trio salutes the classic Special Ed song, 1990's "Come On, Let's Move It" produced by Howie Tee.

The upbeat track, which LL says is "that sundress shake shit," samples "Miss Broadway" released in 1976 by Paris-based trio, Belle Epoque (also referenced in some sources as La Belle Epoque). The song eventually rose to number 21 on Billboard's "National Disco Action Top 40" chart in summer 1977, before it was sampled for the Special Ed track about 13 years later.

"This almost feels like we're in Jamaica," Greg observes while dancing to the track. LL, who is also bobbing along to the Caribbean-influenced beat, says not quite but it's, "...more like Anguilla or something."

After giving props to acclaimed producer Howie Tee for the clever flip, Greg Nice shares that he's been part of a group with Special Ed, Kwame, Dana Dane, Chubb Rock, and Monie Love called The Alumni for the past four or five years, and they've been consistently touring.

"It's like looking at the Temptations of Hip-Hop," Greg explains, adding that when they do shows, they play them DJ-style, with each rapper jumping in and flowing seamlessly to the next song. "You're gettin' hits back to back."
