Lupe Fiasco caused debate amongst Kendrick Lamar fans in a recent Twitter Spaces where he discussed gatekeeping in Hip-Hop, and addressed accusations that he's a "Kendrick Hater". "I don't have a problem with dude. Show me where Ive said that I don't like him," the Samurai MC said. "I like his creativity and conceptualization, and how he inspires Black folks and that's why I've never said I don't like him," he continued.

Fiasco over the years has publicly declared himself a better writer than Kendrick, and he recently said that Drake is a better lyricist than Lamar. Concerning gatekeeping in Hip-Hop Lupe didn't mince his words. "If you want to start who is in and who is out, a process which I don’t agree with, and I think is bullshit, if you want to do that you should have a degree," he said.

"If you ain’t got that, then I don’t think that you are qualified. Just because you can rap, and you’ve sold a bunch of records, it should be stewarded by people who know what the fuck they are talking about very deeply and can write a book about it".
