Hip-Hop icon MC Lyte honored Hip-Hop royalty this past weekend during the launch of her new event series, The Prelude: An Evening With MC Lyte. The star-studded event honored Busta Rhymes, Big Daddy Kane, Yo-Yo and Mona Scott-Young in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Hip-Hop.

During the event, which took place at Andaz West Hollywood and included an awards and presentation ceremony, Busta also took part in a fireside chat that detailed his lengthy career. Specifically, he talked about Chuck D, who gave him his name and his his speed rapping style, which he perfected after losing a battle to Jay-Z when they were both in high school.

BET Executive Louis Carr, Estelle, music icon Jimmy Jam, Kid ‘n Play, Stan Lathan, Omarion, Special Ed and Kym Whitley were also in attendance.

It was a big weekend for Lyte — she was also honored as an ICON by Culture Creators, a leading organization dedicated to uplifting and honoring influential figures in the entertainment industry. Keeping with her packed schedule Lyte is set to perform at the Rock The Bells Festival on Aug. 5 in Queens.
