Posse's and clicks have existed in recorded rap since its earliest days. Some of the affiliations were because of shared record labels and previous musical relationships, while others were regional.

Collectives like The Juice Crew shared producer Marley Marl and in some cases the Queensbridge housing projects. By the early '90's, De La Soul, Queen Latifah, The Jungle Brothers, A Tribe Called Quest and Monie Love were collaborating as the Native Tongues, as they all shared a free spirited and positive vibe that made them a natural fit.

Black Moon, Helta Skelta, Smif-N-Wessun and The Originoo Gun Clappaz were the polar opposites of the fun loving Native Tongues, and by the 1990s they were releasing music as the Boot Camp Clik. This Brooklyn collective shared the rugged street street life and image which they injected into their music.

Although Boot Camp Clik's approach to life and music greatly differed from the Native Tongues, the common love for Hip-Hop and artistic expression was shared among the two groups.

Here we present five works from the legendary Native Tongues and Boot Camp Clik.

1. Buddy - (Native Tongue Decision), De La Soul, ATCQ, Monie Love, Queen Latifah & The Jungle Brothers, 1989

One of Hip-Hop greatest collaborations, this remix of "Buddy" which featured The Jungle Brothers, A Tribe Called Quest, Monie Love and Queen Latifah appeared on the "Ghetto Thing" maxi- single. The song and video was a reinterpretation of the original version from De La's debut album 3 Feet High And Rising. A favorite on dance floors and video shows, this is the definitive version of "Buddy."

2. Leflah - The Fab 5, 1995

The Fab 5 consisted of The Originoo Gun Clappaz and Heltah Skeltah of the Boot Camp Clik. This single was a summer banger, with its video that mocked the dance steps of a classic soul quintet. Produced by Baby Paul, "Leflah" has stood the test of time and remains a quality boom bap production.

3. Blah - Heltah Skeltah & OGC, 1995

This Originoo Gun Clappaz and Helta hSkeltah collaboration was produced by Tony Moore and appeared on the flip side of the "Leflah" single. This maxi single further solidified this Brooklyn collective and grew the fanbases of both groups, as well as the larger Boot Camp Clik.

4. Doin' Our Own Dang - Jungle Brothers,De La Soul, Q Tip and Monie Love, 1989

"Doin' Our Own Dang" appeared on the Jungle Brothers critically acclaimed sophomore album, Done By the Forces of Nature. This follow up to "Buddy" showcased the free spirit and positive vibe of the Native Tongues collective with its popular video.

5. Here We Come - Boot Camp Clik, 2006

"Here We Come" appeared on The Boot Camp Clik's 2006 compilation album ,The Last Stand. This single was a comeback of sorts, as the collective's last album was four years previous. The song and video fed hungry BCC fans who awaited new material.
