In her new memoir, Who's That Girl which was released earlier this week (9/17), Eve revealed the warning that Jay-Z gave her upon the release of her debut album. She discussed the warning in a recent interview with The Times. "The audacity that these men had," she said as she described a conversation with Jay-Z when he called to congratulate her the day that her 1999 debut, Let There Be Eve... Ruff Ryders' First Lady dropped.
Jay-Z reportedly warned her not to get her hopes up, because female rappers "Don't really do that well." One label exec even went so far as to tell her that she should give up and get pregnant. "Now I have age and experience on my side," she said. "Nobody is coming at me like that."
