Xzibit Talks Biden's Weed Pardons: "Actions Being Put Behind Words Means a Lot"

Xzibit had much to say about President Biden's announcement this month for an executive order to pardon federal, simple marijuana possession charges for thousands of Americans. The executive order, announced late last week, will cover more than 6,500 citizens and lawful permanent residents convicted between 1992 and 2021 of simple marijuana possession charges under federal law or D.C. statute, NPR reports. Xzibit praised the decision in an interview with TMZ.

“You know this is something that’s crazy because we see the industry that’s being built now where people are building billion-dollar businesses, and there’s still people sitting in jail for doing the exact same thing,” Xzibit, who has ventured into the cannabis industry, said. “I think that this was a great announcement, shout out to the DOJ to say they’re going to be expeditiously releasing these people and really showing some support for the president’s announcement. So actions being put behind the words means a lot.

However, X says the pardons should go even further. “Even though this is a step in the right direction, this is still not the majority of the mass exodus that needs to happen, the mass clemency for the people that need to be released from federal and state prison,” he said.

On the music side of things, Xzibit, who hasn't put out an album since 2012, said he's working on a new project that'll probably be his last.

“I have an album called Kingmaker that I’m putting the finishing touches on now,” he said. “I’ve been working on it for a minute. I feel like this is gonna be my last album. Not that I’m gonna retire or make any weird statements like that…but I think as about full feature-length albums I think things have changed and people digest music a little differently now."
