Words, Beats & Life Inc is sponsoring an event on January 28 in D.C. called The Combine. The Combine features adult and youth competitions in writing, freestyling, poetry, performance, and rap trivia.

Described as an all-ages literary competition rooted in the pillars of Hip-Hop and its culture, and remixed for modern times, the event is intended to build communities and forge career opportunities. Event judges include Nonchalant, creator of the classic song "5 O' Clock," producer and MC Oddisee, Sa-Roc of Rhyme Sayers Records, producer and MC Substantial, and O-Slice.

The preliminaries will be held from 12:00 pm-6:00 pm in the Eaton House Room, and the All-Star Finals will take place from 7:00 pm-9:00 pm. Competitions are available in two age groups; adults ages 22+ (Varsity) and youth ages 13-21 (JV). Competitors must register to compete in each competition category, prior to the event. The winners of the preliminary competitions at the varsity level receive $250, while winners at the JV level are awarded $150. In the All-Star Finals, each category's top two finalists go head-to-head for a chance to double their winnings, varsity winners take an additional $250 for each event category won during the All-Star Finals, and JV winners receive an extra $150.

The event takes place at the Eaton Hotel located at 1201 K Street NW Washington D.C.
