Flavor Flav On His Olympic Games Compensation: "I Paid My Own Way"

Official U.S. Women's Olympic Polo Team hype man Flavor Flav responded to a social media post that breaks down Snoop Dogg's reported $500k per day Olympic coverage compensation from NBC. "$8 Mil for 16 days, $24,500/hr plus perks," the post said before questioning whether Flav was receiving equal pay. "[Im] here to support the athletes, and I paid my own way for everything including tickets for my family and I and any celebs coming out to water polo,” he posted in response.

There are factors which make Flav and Snoop's situations not comparable. Flav actually volunteered to fill the position of hype man after team captain Maggie Steffens took to social media recently asking her followers to help support the team. She posted, “There is no greater honor than representing Team USA on the Olympic stage side by side with strong, talented & driven women who empower you every day.”

Steffens' post caught the attention of Flavor Flav, who agreed to be the official hype man for the team. "Yo, I’m going to be the biggest hype man that they ever had in their life,” Flav told the Associated Press. “I’m going to be bigger than any cheerleader that they had in their life. I’m going to cheer this team on, and I’m going to cheer this team into winning a gold medal.” Snoop Dogg's position as a commentator at the games is sponsored by NBC and part of the network's desire to boost ratings for the games.

According to an NBC Sports release, "Beginning with the opening ceremony, the five-day total audience delivery average was 34 million viewers, combining daytime and prime time coverage, up 79% from the 2021 Tokyo Olympics." Executives with Comcast’s NBCUniversal ,the television and streaming broadcaster of the Games in the United States have been touting the success of their production, but also of the celebrities and personalities employed as part of the coverage, namely Snoop Dogg.
